Biodiesel
What is Biodiesel?
Biodiesel (FAME) is a renewable, biodegradable, and domestically produced alternative diesel fuel. It is derived from vegetable oils, greases, and recycled animal feeds and waste that would have otherwise been disposed of. It is a greener option to use in place of petroleum diesel.
- Significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions
- Blended with certain amounts of petroleum diesel so that it is safe to be used in all diesel engines
- B100 is pure biodiesel, B5 is 5% biodiesel blended with 95% petroleum diesel
- Biodiesel is more expensive than petroleum diesel, but cheaper than renewable diesel
- During the production process, oxygen is introduced into the fuel, which can cause cold weather performance issues
